NOTE
Jane was born c 1842 at Grange, Banff. & died in 1887. Her parents were Alexander Watson & Isabella McLennan.
As a young man, he worked for the Waterloo Branch of the Great North of Scotland Railway Company. He started his career as a Porter and transferred to the position of Spare Breaksman in February 1866. In September of that year, just before his marriage, he was promoted to Agent of Dalvey Railway Station. An "Agent" was the term used by the Great North of Scotland Company to describe a Stationmaster. Dalvey Railway Station was situated between the villages of Cromdale and Advie. It only existed from 1863 to 1868 after which it became a Halt purely for loading and unloading cattle and pigs for the farm at Dalvey. In September 1868, he was made Stationmaster at Advie's new station. His next transfer was to the station at Craigellachie where he earned the princely sum of £70 before his resignation on 14th September 1875. He had accepted the position of Superintendent of Aberdeen Markets. His responsibility there was for the tenants of the market with whom he negotiated the terms of their annual lease. He remained in this position until his death in 1892. The events surrounding his death were recorded in the Aberdeen Press and Journal. "The tidings", it said, "caused deep regret in the city, where Mr. Chalmers was well known".

The family was living at Deldow, Cromdale and Advie, Moray in the 1871 census, although Alexr (Jr) wasn't present & I couldn't find him anywhere. The 1881 census records the family living at Old Machar, Aberdeen.
Alexr., now a widow, is living at 2 Windsor Place, Aberdeen Old Machar with his half-sister, Margaret Chalmers & children, Alexina & Maggie in the 1891 census.
