Helen was born c 1842 at Turriff, Aberdeen.

Alexander must have been illigitimate as he was born 5 yrs before his parents married. He never appeared to have lived with his parents, rather than his Uncle, Alexander Duncan at Brownhill Of Rothie Brisbane, Fyvie, Aberdeen during 1851 - 1871.

The 1881 census records him with his wife, Aunt Grace Duncan & Niece Jane Castle in the same area. Alexr. & Helen were living in the same place in 1891, again with his Aunt Grace.
