Joel, a Gen Lab/Salt Maker, was born c 1859 at Wharton, Cheshire. His parents were William & Eliza Preston. Emily also had an illigitimate son, John Hilditch, in 1881. The family were living at 281 High St., Over, Cheshire in the 1891 census. Also present is her son, John.

The 1901 census records the family living at 18 Chapel St., Over, Cheshire, although her b'place is recorded as 'Winsford' & aged 42 yrs.
