Glen Saxvold, 74
Grygla - Glen Saxvold, 74, died on Friday, November 29, 2002 at his home in Grygla.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4 (today) at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Paul Knutson officiating. Cynthia Hagen will provide special music and Mandi Bothum and Erika Halvorson will perform a duet. Casketbearers will be Owen Hagen, Jeffrey Hagen, Darwin Hagen, Rocky Hagen, Arlo Hagen, Ronald Lawrence and Michael Willie. Interment will be in Landstad Cemetery in Gatzke.
Glen Bennit Saxvold was born on October 5, 1928, the son of Gustav B. and Berit K. (Sakrismo) Saxvold, on the family farm near Gatzke. He was baptized and confirmed at Landstad Lutheran Church. He grew up and attended country school near Grygla and worked on the family farm. He went to Florida and was a commercial fisherman for about a year. He also worked construction in Alaska in the early 1960s. He owned and operated his own bulldozing business for the last 20 years.
Glen was a member of United Lutheran Church in Gatzke. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going for drives in the country. Glen helped out family and friends with whatever they might need. He was a very quiet and family-oriented man.
Survivors include five sisters, Ingeborg Loven of Thief River Falls; Elizabeth Holte of Grygla, Hennie (Otto) Hagen of Grygla, June (Fred) Cossentine of Eagle Bend and Dagney (Carlyle) Boberg of Fairbanks, Alaska; six nephews and ten nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; a nephews; two brothers-in-law; and a special friend, Florence Lawrence.
Services were held Wednesday, April 23, 2003 for Bobby Maynard Willie, 66, of rural Eagle Bend, at Faith Lutheran Church, Eagle Bend with the Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Burial was at Esther Lutheran Cemetery, Eastern Township, rural Parkers Prairie.
Pallbearers were Bruce Willie, Brian Willie, Allen Willie, Randy Willie, Gary Willie, Scott Willie, Reno Wells, Dennis Wells and Todd Anderson. Arrangements were made by Domian-Anderson Funeral Home, Bertha.
Mr. Willie died Monday, April 21, 2003 at Tri-County Hospital, Wadena.
He was born March 3, 1937 in Osakis to Henry and Hattie (Peterson) Willie. He married Sharon Cossentine June 28, 1969 at Eagle Bend United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and lived in the community for 58 years. He was a member of Eagle Bend Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, card playing, watching westerns and having coffee with the boys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hattie Willie; three brothers, Rueben Willie, Wallace Willie and Clinton Willie; one sister, Darlene Willie; and an infant son.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Willie of Eagle Bend; one son, Michael Willie of Eagle Bend; one brother, David (Marlene) Willie of Sawyer; two sisters, Delores (Donald) Mueller of Long Prairie and Yuvonne (Gerald) Anderson of Eagle Bend; and many nieces and nephews.
Grygla - Elizabeth Holte, 90, died on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at her home in Grygla.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 19, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, with Rev. Mary Gilthvedt officiating. Casket bearers included Marion Holte, Connie Hagen, Julie Saurdiff, Debra Peterson, Sharon Willie, Donna Pearson, Linda Hiltner, Anissa Lauer and Baryth Halvorson. Interment was held at St. Olaf Cemetery in Grygla.
Elizabeth Ostby was born on April 25, 1916 in Gatzke, the daughter of Peder and Berit (Sakrismo) Ostby. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Moose River Lutheran Church and attended country school.
Elizabeth was united in marriage on June 12, 1938 to Henry Holte. Prior to her marriage Elizabeth worked in the kitchen at the hospital in International Falls. Following their marriage the couple moved to Duluth for awhile before returning to Grygla, where they farmed for a short time. They also custom combined down south for a short time where Elizabeth was the cook. They moved into Grygla in 1940, where they owned and operated Holte Implement Company, retiring in 1973.
She enjoyed music, quilting, traveling, playing piano and dancing, especially waltzing. Elizabeth and Henry enjoyed curling, watching movies and using their video camera. Their home was always open to all their nieces, nephews, family and friends. Elizabeth was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She traveled to Norway and met her parent’s families, with whom she kept in contact throughout the years.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church Ladies Aide, church circle and quilting. Elizabeth was active in the community, where she set up scholarships at school, donated to Senior Housing and was active in the Business Development in Grygla.
Elizabeth is survived by three sisters, Hennie (Otto) Hagen of Grygla, June (Fred) Cossentine of Eagle Bend and Dagney (Carlyle) Boberg of Fairbanks, Alaska; 45 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry on July 2, 1988; her parents; step-father, Gust Saxvold; sister, Ingaborg Loven; and brother, Glen Saxvold.
