NOTE
Hetty was academically clever and trained to be a Teacher. Hetty told stories to her own children, Hazel, Dorothy and Kitty and her neices, Rose's children, Rosie, Frank and Marjorie about her mothers (Mary Vivian) trip to Salt Lake City. Hetty seems to be the leading light of the Perry family for the 20th Century. She took most of the photographs of the family. She had three girls, although she was working, times were hard and she used to wait for her wage packet at the end of the month with some urgency just to buy food. She was married to George Lambert and they lived at 50 Durham Rd, Manor Park. Hetty and George went to Australia sometime before WW1. When war broke out George could only enlist with the Australian Army. It is possible that he fought in France with the Anzacs. During the war approximately 1915, Hetty Sailed back to England. Her journey was not pleasant as she was a female travelling alone with a small baby and the crew on the ship pestered her and would not leave her alone. She stayed at Ruskin Avenue until she found her house in Durham Road. When she first saw Rosie as a baby, Rose was washing her in a tin bath on the kitchen table and Hetty couldn't believe how much hair Rosie had. It was a big black mop of hair and she said' Rose she looks like a monkey'! George returned from Australia in 1919. Rosie was only 4 and she can remember him standing in the doorway wearing a funny hat. Obviously a bush hat. She was a very upright lady. She was a teacher and became Acting Head Mistress of St Edwards High School in Romford. A year before she retired they made her the Head Mistress, which was a bit late in the day as she had done the job for so many years. In the 1970's when Hetty was well on in her 80s she went to South Africa- a eleven hour flight. She stayed with her Daughter Hazel and her husband John. John Henderson was the Managing Director of John Laing Construction in South Africa. They lived in Kloof, Kwazulu Natal. (then Transvaal). Hetty had done so much in her life, there was nothing more for her to achieve and she died in South Africa in 1979. Soon after Hazel and John moved to Ventura, California and lived on a boat, before returning to England in the 1980s.
