James, a Shipmaster/Coal Merchant, was born c 1782 at Gamrie, Banff. & died in 1866. His parents were James Todd & Isabel Nicol.

The 1841 census records James & his children living at Gardenstown, Gamrie, Banff. Also present is Grandson, James T. Nicholson. James is living at the same place in 1851 with his sister, Marjory Todd & Grandchildren, James Todd & Janet Dick, although recorded as Nephew & Niece.

James is living with his sister, Marjory Todd & Grandson, John Nicholson at Seatown, Gamrie, Banff. in 1861.
