NOTE

Hazel was born c 1890 in New York, USA. Recorded as a boarder at Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York in the 1910 census. His brother William was also present. His World War I Draft Registration Card can be seen here.

The family was living at Brooklyn Assembly District 18, Kings, New York in the 1920 census & later at Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York in 1930. Also present was his father.

James Archibald went to business school and was employed by Quaker Oats. He married Hazel Champlin in 1917 and shortly after went to work for her family’s business as Board Secretary and head of purchasing at the Cattaraugus Cutlery, Co in Little Valley, NY. . James was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was stricken on a hunting trip and died of a ruptured ulcer in 1930. Later, his father (David H.) moved in with his widowed daughter-in-law and helped her to raise her daughters. (Note provided by Faith Willis)
