NOTE

From R.C.W.Rosehearty Web Community: "The 131grt iron steamship William Hope, built 1833 & reg. in Dundee, stranded on the 28 Oct. 1884 whilst on route to Fraserburgh to Burghead in ballast. Her engines had failed off Troup Head and she ran aground in Aberdour Bay. The Wife of a local farmer, Jane Whyte, who had gone to check her husband's boat, found the ship aground and waded into the sea to catch a rope thrown by the crew - by use of this rope, all the crew managed to get safely ashore. Jane Whyte was awarded a silver medal by the RNLI for the act - there is a memorial at the site of her house at Aberdour Beach to commemorate the rescue."

I Have been talking to my dad's cousin Lillian Baker from Warwick Queensland, She is the Daughter of Robert Whyte son of Jane Thain and she told me Jane's Birthday was 27th April 1844 so this is the first date we have been able to come up with. (by Trevor Raymond Whyte q.v.,)

Marr. cert. records her usual residence as Netherbrae, Parish of King Edward & witnesses, John Cruickshank & Robt. Thain.
