Charles, a Fisherman/Master Mariner, was born c 1843 at Hastings, Sussex.

The family were living at Whaplead Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk in the 1871 census. Also present were Mary's sisters, Jessie & Ellen. The 1881 census records the family living at Chapham Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk.

The 1891 census record the family at 200 Clapham Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk. Also present is Niece, Beatrice Dowsing & Mary's brother, William & his family were living next door. Mary & Charles are living at the same place in 1901 with children, Edwin & Ellen. Their dau., Emma (Nichols) & her family were living a few doors away.
