James, a Waterman/Labourer, was born c 1837 at Northwich, Cheshire & died before 1881. The family were living with Phoebe's sister, Ruth (Fitchett) at 1 Boundary St., Chorlton Upon Medlock, Lancashire in the 1861 census.

The 1871 census records the family living at 9 Grosvenor St., Chorlton On Medlock, Lancashire. Phoebe, now a widow, is living at 115 York St., Chorlton Upon Medlock, Lancashire in 1881 with her children.

Phoebe & her second husband are living at the same place in 1891. Her dau., Sarah is also present. Phoebe & George are recorded at 115 York St., South Manchester, Lancashire in 1901. Sarah is also present (she died the same year) & Alfred & his family are living next door.
