Richard Butson came out to NZ abt 1883 to his uncle Samuel Butson and his wife Elizabeth nee Soper, who had left Cornwall for Aust in 1853, then in 1863 he sailed to NZ. and settled at Garston. In 1887 Richards brother Frederick joined him in NZ then his mother Mary Butson nee Chegwidden came to NZ with her remaining children in 1890 after the death of her husband and two children.
