Samuel, a Carter/Inn Keeper/Ale Merchant, was born c 1824 at Lowton, Lancashire & died in 1887. Did Ruth ever get in trouble ? This record from the England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892 suggests she may have done.

Ruth is recorded at her brother, John's house at Hartford, Cheshire in the 1851 census & later Ruth & Samuel are recorded at 1 Boundary St., Chorlton Upon Medlock, Lancashire in 1861. Also present is her sister (Phoebe Pimblett) & her family.

The 1871 census records them both living at 105 Grosvenor St., Chorlton Upon Medlock, Lancashire. Also present is his sister, Harriot Hilditch. Ruth & Samuel are living at 113 York St., Chorlton Upon Medlock, Lancashire in 1881. Also present is her Niece, Ellen Hilditch (21).
