The Niche- An interesting little piece of Church Resoration has just been made possible by the kindness of Mr. Sam Curtis. In demolishing the two old cottages on Church Hill, formerly known as Almshouses (Hence the reference to --WEST DOOR) his workmen came across a beautifully carved stone, which had evidently once been the canopy of a niche in the Church, mutilated and removed in Cromwellian or other troublesome times. Mr. Curtis was kind enough to present this to your Rector. Who has had it replaced as a canopy to a recess which was needed and which will always edd interest and some little further dignity to our Sanctuary. This stonework can be found on the left-hand side of the altar. DOCUMENT: PARISH MAGAZINE -July 1903.
