Victor was born c 1918 in New York & died in 1972. "While his/our last name is Barton, he actually changed it sometime around WWII (he said at least) because Italy was fighting for the wrong side. In actuality, he changed his last name because he didn’t want to take his father’s name because of the way he was treated when he was young. His birth last name was Battaglia. When he was very young, his mom died and his dad put Victor in a Catholic orphanage. My dad also had 2 sisters, I’m not sure where they went, my guess is they were put in an orphanage as well. While times were tough, this was not perceived as done out of necessity. My dad’s birth name was Vittorio Emanuel Battaglia – which his mother gave him I’m sure, for the meaning of the name is “God is with you to give you victory in your battle”. A beautiful name indeed."
