NOTE
Cossentine, William: Immigration: June 1835, New York. William Henry marr. (1st) Caroline Giswald. Walter F. & Walter both died in infancy. Rachel (1829-1900), of Canada. She liv. with her son Charles during 1880 census. Her father was from France, her mother from NJ.
* May have married in Canada but I'm not so sure. The 1900 census records John Thomas' immigration year as 1845 so they could have married just before that in Canada or just after in USA.
Looking for William in the 1840 census is impossible. The closest match I could find was a Wm 'Cassenben' who lived at New York Ward 1, New York.
The 1850 census records William living with his wife, Rachel & son, Charles W. at Milwaukee Ward 5, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His sons, William & John were not present & I couldn't find them anywhere.
The family were living at Auburn, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin in 1860. Also present were his 2 sons, William & John.
By 1870 William was obviously sick as he's recorded as 'An Invalid' & living at Concord, Dodge Co., Minnesota with his wife & children: Charles, James, Samuel, George & Frank.
Mary Ann was born c 1818 & died between 1844-45.

" I have William Cossentine born abt 1807-08 in England. Immigrated to USA. I have no postive record of what happened but couldn't it be, that William went to Canada for reasons unknown ...met and married Rachel Hilderman and returned back to the states. I have no idea but in the census records, it says Rachel was born in Canada and so were the boys. According to my records, John was brought into the U.S by his father when John was 2 years old. Possibly Mary Junnifer died there, I don't know. In the census records, it states that John was born in Canada in 1843. I also have Johns death record. On the death certificate, his mother is Mary Junnifer and John was born in canada 1843. I have been trying to get Johns birth record with no success as of yet. Needs further research.
I have the marriage certificate of John and Caroline Miller..date: Dec 25 1865.married in Wisconsin.( sorry if I gave you the wrong date in the other letter). I am double checking the certificates. Caroline was adopted by her grandfather Miller. Her parents are listed as Louisa and Abrahm Childs. Strangely though, On Caroline's death certificate, her parents are named Louisa and Harry Strinson. ( Possibly that Abrahm died and Louisa remarried to a Strinson) This is the reason she was called Miller. I also have Caroline's death record...died 1897., May 31st.
In the Civil War records I have of John Thomas Cossentine, he is listed as John L Cossentine. I know they are the same person because I also have Johns war pension papers.......same serial number...signed as John Thomas. A slip of the pen can cause lots of confusion. It also has on the pension records..his heir, my grandmothers name.
