Josephine was born c 1855 at Brooklyn, New York, USA. Her parents were David & Maria Wyman. William & Harriet both died in infancy. Louise was born c 1863 in California.

"William Trethewey son of Richard Trethewey and Rachel Arthur was born in Northfleet, Kent, not St Stephen's as you indicate in your website 27.4.1857. His father and uncle John T. were shipyard carpenters there for a short time though he once claimed that they were important executives in a system of docks. His parents took him to California where he adopted the local spelling Tretheway and assumed the all-American name Elmer as his second name to make himself look more American than he was, though I doubt that his American colleagues would have appreciated that the name was exclusively American and that he was thereby doing them an "honour." "I believe that she wrote the obit herself which explains why the name of her husband is incorrect. Josie divorced William Elmer Tretheway January 31, 1901 and moved to Santa Cruz in 1904 where her mother lived. All of the census records and city directories noted that she was a widow. Additionally, she continually noted incorrect ages for her self as she got older which made it appear that she was younger than she actually was. I believe that she was concerned about protecting her image and possibly the image of her former husband who died in 1930 and that is why she stated the incorrect name in the obit."
